A series of three design workshops was conducted on-location, in order to gather a better understanding of anonymous urban neighborhoods and find out about the neighbors needs and opinions. For each workshop, a set of novel tools was created to suit each individual topic and focus (networks, trust, communication channels).
All workshops were part of ConnectedCity, a research project exploring the interaction within urban neighborhoods. The main question is – how can interaction between neighbors be increased in an anonymous but socially diverse house? Our goal is to start a dialogue about practice-based research for urban living. We want to explore the urban lives of present and future citizens, their particular opportunities to interact, and their potential to engage in diverse cross generational communities.
ConnectedCity was started in Winter 2010 by Stephanie Neumann and Jonas Breme at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam. Parts of the research were presented at Chi Sparks 2011 in Arnhem (NL) and Re:Publica 2012 in Berlin (DE).
